PRESENTED BY FRANCESCA BRIVIO
Olaya Sound System was founded in Lima in 2008, searching for a sound that could integrate different genres of peruvian, latin and tropical music.
Peru is a special place where different traditions have converged: those from the complex Andean world, the many different cultures of the Amazon forest, the native coastal tradition, the spanish-european heritage, and of course the strong tradition brought by the africans.
This particular cultural background has undoubtedly been the main inspiration to find the original sound of Olaya Sound System.
In 2010 they edited along Descabellado label their first album "Nadar en el Cemento", having reggae and cumbia as main references, with very good public acceptance and critics.
Later, in 2012, they released their second album "Nuestra Casa", where the andean groove and feeling emerge storgnly in the "reggae-cumbia" sound of their first album.
Between 2013 and 2014 the group focused on playing as many shows as they could, participating in several concerts and festivals with bands like Café Tacuba (Mexico), Sargent Garcia (France), Chico Trujillo (Chile), Solar System (Colombia), among others, becoming one of the leading contemporary musical projects of Peru.
2015 began with their first international tour to Chile, playing in Arica, Iquique, Valparaiso, Santiago and Concepcion, with great success.
Returning to Peru, they released their third album "Quién es Quién”, a mature work that shows new production and composition levels. The success of this album allowed them to access the FM radio, increasing its audience significantly.
They are currently in their second international tour, on february 2016, in Uruguay and Argentina.
