PRESENTED BY RONI FRANKO

Dope Calypso is a Budapest based, Hungarian garage punk band. Their music incorporates the ’60s garage, the ’90s punk and their attitude is generally DIY. Raw-sound, energetic concerts and keeping everything simple is what characterizes Dope Calypso. All the members played several years in the Hungarian underground in different formations until they found each other in October 2013.
After the first rehearsal it was obvious that although the guys all came with different musical background and have different tastes in music, together they found the music they all enjoy writing and playing.
They instantly started writing songs and in March 2014 Dope Calypso already went to studio to start recording the first studio album. After mixing the album in Italy, and mastering in the USA, Dope Calypso released the first single from the debut LP on 18th June 2014, containing two tracks: Black Swamp Thing and Molester. The single had positive feedback from the Hungarian music press.
To maintain the interest, the band also released their first official music video for the track Black Swamp Thing during the summer.
Eventually the debut LP – Farewell to the Fairy, Goodbye to the Ghost – premiered on 15th September 2014 on one of the leading Hungarian music journal’s online page, claiming the band’s debut LP was dirty-good.
One thing that makes Dope Calypso especially unique is the fact that they don’t have bass player. Nonetheless nobody misses the bass neither form the album nor from live concerts. The band’s performances are considered powerful, very-loud and equivalent to an energy-bomb.
