PRESENTED BY MARIA GONZALES
A rising star in the hip-hop and indie music scene, Crown spins autobiographical rhymes over the live instrumentals of his Venice, California-based band–the M.O.B. (Message of the Blues). Born in Brooklyn, NY just blocks from his influences Notorious BIG, Big Daddy Kane and Jay-Z, Crown is a true crossover talent gaining momentum as an artist as he released numerous underground mix tapes before signing with Capitol Records. In a genre dominated by played-out themes and digitized tracks, Crown forgoes the clichés of bling and women, rapping about deeply personal experiences and social issues over lush soundscapes of Motown- style horns and old school beats. Leading M.O.B. are Andrew Feltenstein and John Nau, along with band-mates Colin Wolfe (bass - Madonna, Dr. Dre, TLC), Danny Dunlap (guitar – Jennifer Hudson, Sting, Kelly Clarkson) and Phillip Fisher (drums - Justin Timberlake). Crown’s debut album from Capitol Records, All Rise, has been one of the most-anticipated records of the year—and it delivers.
