PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
Dublin born Conan Brophy has been playing guitar and writing songs since the age of fourteen. Most of his early influences were rock groups of the 1960's such as The Beatles, The Doors, The Velvet Underground and The Zombies but as he became more interested in music his tastes broadened to take in the more varied sounds of Punk (Dead Kennedys and Snuff), New Wave (Talking Heads and Devo), Madchester (Stone Roses and Happy Mondays), Ambient (FSOL and The Orb) and everything else he could get his greedy hands on (Miles Davis, Alice Coltraine, Phil Niblock, Sun Ra and on and on...)
He played and gigged with various groups throughout his teens gradually picking up pieces of equipment such as a Tascam 4-track tape recorder and various microphones and effects processors until finally in 2005 he had amassed enough bits and pieces in his home to record his own album on his own terms without the clock ticking on his bank account.
Hence his first solo record: Firewood.
In 2006 conan moved from Dublin to the west of Ireland for the surf and relative calm of county Clare where he now lives and continues to gig and record with a new album currently under way.
Tune in again tomorrow!!!
