I got this idea for the lyric when I was in Bucharest, Romania on top of a building we had climbed onto, in order to see the sun, at the end of a long night.
At the time my girlfriend was living in Nepal, the song is essentially about missing her… long distance relationships are hard..
At the time I was with a group of people, we were all high on life amongst a few other things and feeling rather loved up…
My favorite lyric in this song is:
“Do I look like I’ll still be here tomorrow? Where’s the sense in complimenting you”
I also love the opening and finishing lyric because there are so many times I have asked someone if they would like to climb to the roof… the roof is where you can breath, and where you get inspired. The song makes me thing of orange, red and yellow… lots of it.
The “I wish I could see you ‘ I’d smile” part has a slightly deeper more personal undertone.
It’s about two people I never got to meet. And never will. I think about you still.
I actually love this song, the middle section was written with John Tilley about 4 years ago… “flying past the moon”
It had just been flying about for ages and I kind of wrote it over a long period of time, piecing it together bit by bit… It was very therapeutic actually… I guess it’s quite psychedelic too… It’s psychedelic classical folk pop…
It was also recorded and mixed completely on tape… so it sounds amazing! And it took 40 takes to get it right
