PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN
Hailing originally from Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland, Ronan started playing guitar at 13, with no intention of singing. He got in on singing when he started writing his own songs and realised that singers got more birds.
Venturing to college at University College Dublin, Ronan fronted the renowned trio known as 'The Communist Monkeys of Ecuador' at UCD's celebrated Open Mic Night, playing crowd pleasers such as the legendary 'Eminem Made Me Do It', as well as storming renditions of The Pixies' 'Where Is My Mind?' and Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters'.
In the summer of 2005, Ronan recorded the seven track demo, 'Follow Me', with most tracks getting heavy play on UCD's radio station, Belfield FM. In 2006, Ronan recorded the six track demo, 'Lost Souls'. Ronan is currently in the middle of recording his third demo, called 'See You Next Tuesday'.
Right now, Ronan is based in Birmingham, UK, where he plays regularly at the 'SacksUnplugged' night in 'The Sacks Of Potatoes', Aston Triangle, Birmingham. Amongst these was the OxJam fundraiser for Oxfam, and the Christmas Special. Playing sets that are made up mostly of originals, Ronan has become a regular contributor to the night in a short space of time. In March 2007, Ronan played as part of the line-up for the Relay For Life fundraiser for Cancer Research UK at Aston University. Ronan also played drums for the psychedelic-funk-groove-alternative-experimental-random supergroup, Babagau and Friends, as well as producing the first demo for up and coming singer/songwriter, Ben Lerman.
Tune in again tomorrow!!!
