PRESENTED BY JULIAN KARPINSKI
On a ghost walk in Charleston, SC, Rhyan Sinclair heard about 1800’s murderous innkeeper, Lavinia Fisher. The story came to life in song in Rhyan’s imagination, like a Tim Burton/Danny Elfman soundtrack, on her trip back home to Kentucky. Within weeks, she had written material for the alt country concept album, The Legend of Lavinia Fisher. A year later, she returned to Charleston and played those songs in the jail cell where Lavinia was held before her hanging and where many believe her ghost still haunts.
This was Rhyan’s third album with her band, All the Little Pieces, which formed 5 years ago, when Rhyan was 11 years old. Years of playing every venue she could find and becoming a seasoned performer at an early age led to opening gigs for Lillie Mae and The Dead South and getting to work with musicians like Fats Kaplin and Carl Verheyen.
Rhyan is also part of the production team of BalconyTV Kentucky and serves as the presenter.
BalconyTV Kentucky is celebrating its second anniversary and invited Rhyan to play Lavinia’s Song in honor of the landmark and to celebrate Halloween, Lavinia style.
