PRESENTED BY ZACHARY JOHNSON
Incarcerated at an adult summer camp in 2013, in the sweltering Florida heat, songwriter Spencer Bloor caught the attention of drummer Charlotte Kahn.
Marooned in contemptuous Boca Raton, Charlotte was immediately drawn to Spencer’s simplistic yet clever lyrics, raw guitar sound and Frank Black (Pixies) influenced vocals. When Charlotte infused her charming singing and proficient drumming into Spencer’s arsenal of songs Rat’s Mouth was conceived. Rat’s Mouth was named after the city of its conception, Boca Raton where Spencer and Charlotte enter each other’s lives.
Both musicians who are in their early 20s have been playing since childhood and share a passion for rock. This passion and experience is apparent in Rat’s Mouth style which is fresh indie rock with a vintage alternative sound that highlights bands like Weezer, Violent Femmes and The Pixies. Rat’s Mouth stands apart with their call and response vocals between the two singers. The dynamic shifts of quiet to loud, and angry to silly showcase novel arrangements with nostalgic influences from past decades.
Neysa Blay has since joined Rat's Mouth on bass, and special guest Achilles appeared on xylophone in this video production of Eskimo.
Rat’s Mouth is currently playing shows in the South Florida area as well as building an online fan base in support of their debut 7 song E.P., “The Big Surprise.” Rat’s Mouth is seeping with infectious melodies and endearing lyrics guaranteed to produce a smile.
