The Murshidabadi Project is an acoustic Sufi/Hindustani band based in Mumbai. Spearheaded by Murshidabadi, the current lineup features Rishi Darnal on guitar,
Swetketu Banerjee on Sitar and Naynesh Pimpale on percussion.
The band's repertoire is very wide - ranging from Sufi kalaams and folk tunes to Bengali qawaalis. They look forward to collaborating with new musicians & explore new genres of music.
Winners of the The NCPA (National Centre of Performing Arts') Band Baaja Competition in 2015, they opened for Indian Ocean at the Tata Theatre the same year. Besides performing at venues across the country, they also produce music for theatre & television and recently composed music for the popular TV show 'Strictly Street' on Travel XP.
'Asheqgon Deewana' is a Bengali qawaali written by Goni Pagol. The band learnt it from Armaan fakir of Gorbhanga, Nadia, West bengal, who with other fakirs & bauls of Nadia & Murshidabad have rejuvenated the moribund tradition of Bengali qawaali in the recent years.
