PRESENTED BY MAITA

The music of MAITA, an indie folk singer from Portland, Oregon, is a "focused, American realism psalm ... that sets her apart from her indie contemporaries" (American Standard Time).

Their 2017 debut EP, Waterbearer, is a battle cry for silent warriors, inquisitive seekers and hot lovers. Waterbearer, produced by Matthew Zeltzer, mixed by John Askew (Neko Case) and with some of Portland's best musicians, e.g. Dave Depper (Death Cab for Cutie, Loch Lomond), Skip VonKuske (Portland Cello Project), Tucker Jackson (The Minus 5, The Delines) and Matthew Berger (Laura Gibson), sounds minimalist but powerful. Accompanied by a cello, MAITA's spellbinding voice enchants the hypnotic guitar playing and brings her seductive poetry to the fore.

MAITA's songs testify to the wonderful vibe of life. MAITA is an artist who understands how risky creation and authorship are. This becomes clear by paying attention to their lyrical words, which wind through the verses of their music - the fine line between reverence and doubt, worship and desecration. Her enchanting voice and juicy, asymmetrical melodies lead the listener through her thoughts, consciously and full of confession.
