Kaitlyn Baker's music reflects the beauty of the Cumberland Mountains and the ruggedness of the coal-mining culture in which she was raised.
"My father and grandfather used to work in the coal mines," she says. "A lot of the inspiration for my songs comes from the way I was raised. I grew up listening to old rock and gospel. I feel as if all those things combined to give me a bluesy, country-rock style that's a little sassy."
Born in the small town of Pound, Virginia, Kaitlyn was inspired to play the mandolin and guitar by her grandfather, who played multiple instruments. She started singing in church at age 7, and was soon performing professionally throughout southwestern Virginia and southeastern
By the time she was 14, Kaitlyn had completed two self-produced albums, and was soon co-writing with some of the best songwriters in the business, including established songwriters in Nashville. Kaitlyn has also opened for numerous popular artists including Billy Currington, Doug Stone, Sawyer Brown, Rhonda Vincent, Sammy Kershaw, Brett Eldredge and Josh Gracin.
