California Blues singer KaiL Baxley hails from the small backwater town of Williston-Elko, South Carolina, the birthplace and stomping grounds of the late great soul legend James Brown, with whom Baxley shared an unlikely friendship with as a child. Baxley’s music explores many different styles, blues, folk, gospel and soul among them. While Brown’s influence is most apparent on Baxley’s more hard driving soul grooves, with their syncopated beats and self assured attitude, his vocal delivery owes more to the laid back style of a Bill Withers.

Baxley’s debut effort, "Heatstroke/The Wind and the War”, was presented as a double EP, displaying the yin and yang of his musical range, it moved seamlessly between haunting indie folk and “taste maker” soul swagger. A surprise nominee for NPR's Album Of The Year, it received much critical acclaim, providing a bright start to a promising career that included debuts at Folk Alliance and SXSW, where Baxley was tapped as, “One of NPR’s top new artists at SXSW.” by All Songs Considered

“These are moody shuffles, haunting gospel-workouts and bluesy testimonials that are lush, knowing and wise. Absolute perfection." - Alex Green, Editor, Caught in the Carousel"

"Baxley's music should please anyone who has fallen fleetingly for bands like The Black Keys. His focused approach to folk and blues outstrips those superstars in terms of melodic complexity and emotional impact." - Jordan Lawrence, Shuffle Magazine"

Baxley is back in the studio with co-producer/engineer Eric Corne putting the finishing touches on his sophomore release, "A Light that Never Dies”, due out in the spring of 2015 via Forty Below Records.
