South Florida native Jamie Craig joins Pouya Pourtahmasbi and Reza Filsoofi -- Iranian transplants -- who merge their distant worlds into a sound all their own as Jamie Craig and The Postcards. The trio’s soulful indie pop carries its weight with soaring vocals, guitar, percussion and innovative lead bass lines.

Jamie and Pouya’s paths crossed while studying music in college. Reza joined the band shortly after, adding his unconventional percussion setup to take Jamie Craig and the Postcards to a new level. Since the trio’s conception in June of 2013, they have already made a name on the South Florida music scene.

The trio pull from an eclectic array of influences.

“As a songwriter, I believe a good song is just that…a good song! A genre is just a label,” says Jamie. “Whether I’m listening or writing, I focus on clever lyrics, heartfelt melodies, and creative arrangements.”

As Pouya works to expand the common conception of what the bass can sound like, they create something colorful and deep. “Playing in this group has really been a journey of trial and error,” says Pouya. “When arranging the songs for a live scenario, I think about a sonic image for the song that to me feels original. Then I experiment with sounds and techniques and discover various possibilities on the bass to make that a reality.”

Says Reza: “When I first started playing in the group I felt the need to fill the shoes of a rock drummer. Instead I set up my percussion instruments in a way that I have the drum kit function, but I can also add some of my own style and techniques from my Iranian roots.”

The band is at work on a new EP that is scheduled to be released in a few weeks.
