PRESENTED BY MATT FIELD

Emma grew upin London andat the age of 6 took an unexpected interest in classical guitar. Under the guidance of a young songwrite she quickly developed a love ofstorytelling and language, and several years and questionable school bands later, moved to Sydney to study Latin at University.

Her first record was made in a bedroom in Newtown and its carefully plucked guitar and hauntingly relatable turns of phrase, helped her carve out a place in the Sydney scene. Her and musician Luke Moseley, rented a space together in a local furniture joinery on the edgeof a park. The carpenters helped them build walls and they filled the room with instruments and recording equipment. It was here over the humof a drop saw that she started laying the foundations for the album, using recording as a tool towrite and building up soundscapes with found soundsand shared synths.

Her second album is a delicately crafted, warm and textured record. Playful imperfect beats nestle themselves amongst rich organic synths with enough space for each sound to breathe equally. It is an observation of an anxious mind, a coming to terms with ageing and a celebration of the unknown.Underpinning it all, a sense of relief at finding a way to create again. The first two singles from the album were released last year and received with glowing reviews. ‘Danger in Me’, a stunningly succinct plea for equality resonated with many and won Emma places on several of Spotify and Apple Music’s best of 2017 playlists.
