Alex Ruiz has been writing and performing since he can remember. As a teenager, he honed on writing and playing gospel on guitar and piano. He has since fronted many bands and has proven his longevity in the world of entertainment.

He has fronted and performed with the band Del Castillo since August of 2000, as one of the principal writers. Del Castillo has been touring extensively since 2004. The band primarily plays latin world fusion, and it has been received worldwide.Del Castillo is now on its tenth year and 7th album.

In February of 2008, Alex worked with Del Castillo and great artists such as: Joe Ely, Ray Benson/Asleep at the Wheel, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Raul Malo, and Carlene Carter among many, on the PBS special feature "The Outlaw Trail". This special TV taping was filmed at the famous Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas, and featured music that pioneered the spirit of the old west.

One of Alex's favorite accomplishments was to be personally invited to write and perform for "Voices of a Grateful Nation". This project was put forth by Charles Gallagher and Jamie Oldaker (former drummer of Eric Clapton) in support of the homecoming troops.

Within the last ten years he has recorded with artist such as Willie Nelson. The song recorded was "I Never Cared for You", which has now become Willie Nelson's favorite version. Most recently he has collaborated with Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Los Lonely Boys, Mana and many other well known artists on the compilation, "Project of Love", in memory of Cesar Chavez and dedicated to the spirit of the labor workers from Central and South America.

Alex also fronts the famous movie soundtrack band, "Chingon", with director/producer Robert Rodriguez. His voice, songs and persona have been featured in such films as: Once upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, Kill Bill 2 and most recently, Machete.

The most current project, "The Saturday Nites" featuring Jeff Plankenhorn and Albert Besteiro as co-writers/guitar players. The Saturday Nites' have officially changed their name to 'The Night Mothers'! The style of music composed in this project is rock/americana. "The Saturday Nites" can be seen and heard on youtube and reverbnation. The band can be currently seen live playing at places in Austin: Antone's, Continental Club, Saxon Pub; New Braunfels: Gruene Hall; Houston: Dosey Doe; McAllen, TX: Cine El Rey. The recent single from The Night Mothers, "Sunrise" was released November, 2011 and is now available on iTunes.
