ED SHEERAN

London //   21 October, 2008

PRESENTED BY LAYLA ANNA-LEE

With two albums already recorded and a place in the National Youth Music Theatre and National Youth Theatre, 17-year-old Ed Sheeran is more experienced than his age would suggest.

Born in Halifax and now living in London, Ed picked up his first guitar aged eleven and wrote his first song soon after. "I was self taught for the first couple of years and then had lessons for about three years," Ed says. "I'm now back to being self taught."

In early 2005, aged 14, Ed recorded an EP called The Orange Room, and by October the same year Ed was ready to record his first album, called Ed Sheeran.

Eds influences include Nizlopi, Jason Mraz, Gary Dunne, Damien Rice and more. All of these are reflected in his music and performance. Ed, who plays an electric acoustic guitar, draws in any crowd who come to see him live: I love performing and the atmosphere that comes with it."

By summer 2006, Ed recorded his second album Want Some?, and he has gone on to sell a large number of copies at his shows. In Spring 2007, Gary Dunne recommended Ed to Luke Concannon, the singer from Nizlopi, and during the summer holidays Ed toured with the band as their guitar tech. This gave him invaluable experience of life on tour, and he struck up a good friendship with the band. In April 2008, Ed supported Nizlopi when they played at the Norwich Arts Centre on their UK tour, promoting their new album.

Ed is currently very busy writing & recording whilst gigging around the UK.
