Welcome to the, er, “Teens”.
Despite the horrendously crap name, the coming decade promises to hold all the allure of any previous one.
The allure being we haven’t a fucking clue what’s going to happen.
Generally
at this juncture, our tendency is to reflect on what has passed as
opposed to looking forward in any great detail. It’s safer to wrap
yourself in nostalgia rather than venture out into the icy unknown. In
an age of (not even remotely equally distributed) excess resources,
home comforts and reassuring normality keep us safe in the knowledge
that if you keep your head down and your mouth shut, tomorrow will
essentially be the same as before and you won’t have to punch that boss
/ salesman / mirror reflection.
Don’t get me wrong, habitual and
passive activities are fun. For example, the only New Year’s (higher)
resolution I’m aiming for at the moment is a HD flatscreen.
Anyway, my point is that I think it’s more productive to speculate and dream – it’s what we’re hardwired to do, isn’t it?
I
could bore you with RW’s plans, aspirations and ambitions but there
will be an excessive amount of that in the coming weeks and weeks.
You
don’t need to be in a band to set goals and targets, and I think it’s
beautiful to watch these ideas develop, evolve and adapt.
Dare to dream, guys.
Fuck the softly-softly game.
Don’t be careful what you wish for.
You probably deserve it.
Just leave a better world than you found.
Disko.
