Phew!
What a YEAR!
Since we moved into
the apartment space (that has been lovingly named “The Commune”) above
the Oak/Thomas Read pub, and adjacent to the Emporium Strip Club and
The Boilerhouse in Dublin’s Temple Bar, it seems that time has sped up
and we’ve just moved up through the gears from there.

At the
start of 2009, we were one of many Dublin bands working hard to carve
out a niche for ourselves in an overcrowded music scene. There was a
sense of expectation for the year ahead, though Mostly down to the
nascent relationship formed with 360 and the ever increasing number of
people showing up both to our gigs and the by now legendary, it’s fair
to say, after parties. Our friends at Balcony TV (who are based in the
space above where we live) offered to document the year ahead for a
youtube documentary called “The Band Downstairs”.

If Christmas TV gets a little too rich for it’s own sake, you can view all of the episodes to date in the youtube playslist : http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8AE8D39D4DDA14C5&search_query=reader%27s+wives+the+band+downstairs
Perhaps
it was just the stars alligning, or making a rake of new friends as
people moved in to the building, but our creative purple patch seemed
to start right away and by the end of March we had written enough
material for two EPs (the first was released in November – which you
can nab on iTunes now – and the second will be out in February) as well
as an entire album, tentatively entitled “Rachel’s Apartment” and due
for release in 2010.

We travelled alot in the
summmer (it’s a blut of beautiful faces), playing anywhere and
everywhere that would have us, as well as hitting London for the first
time, amid the mania of the Camden Crawl. We also started to gain some
real momentum here at home.

November, however, was when all the work began to come to fruition, though. Our debut EP had just come out (You can nab it HERE : http://readerswives.360degreemusic.com/shop/categories/Digital-via-iTunes.htm?catID=68
), and to celebrate we spent a rip roaring weekend in London playing
three amazing shows, followed by a brilliant homecoming show in Odessa
– which was the best!

Thanks to everyone (both in
the U.K. and in Ireland) who has supported us, hosted us in their homes
and at parties, and especially to those who came out to the shows and
made it such a successful November. Cheers to everyone who counts
themselves a Reader’s Wives fan! You know who you are!

We’ve heard the starters orders this year and we’re focused to do you proud in 2010.
In the meantime, you can check in or join us on Facebook for by the minute blogs, reviews and updates.
Hope
you all have a chilled Christmas (we’ll be getting stuck into the third
quarter of recording for “Rachel’s Apartment”) and we look forward to
seeing you (hearing us!) in 2010.
