TIMES NEW VIKING - BORN AGAIN REVISITED

It was The Ramones who famously coined the phrase – “Blitzkrieg Bop”. This also happens to be a relatively apt description for Times New Viking’s music. SUFJAN STEVENS - THE BQE

This Detroit native has always been known for his experimental genre of music. This album is his creativity at his height. This album was intended to be for a film that would be accompanied by this soundtrack, which would be performed live. While I have not seen this film, or heard this performed live, listening to this album gives you an idea of what a spectacle it would be. The album starts off slowly in full orchestra mode, unlike any of Stevens previous works. He is quoted in saying what a challenge this was for him; “(This album was) intended to create a non-personal, non-narrative piece. I tried to reduce my own personal investment as much as possible, and I refused to incorporate one of my strengths, which is the song. I was relinquishing my greatest weapon.” By relinquishing song we get to experience a wide variety of different music, starting with classical brilliance. Read review >>
