UPDATE ON STUFF

Sorry for the really disinteresting lazy blog entries of late. I was in London last week working with a group on BalconyTV London which we hope to launch in June. We were exploring the city for a good balcony. If anyone knows one, or has one, let us know! The pressure is on.
Along with that we are working on an overall rebuild of the website. Meetings along these lines are a bit more stressful. As we are building our own archive independent of YouTube it is a bit strenuous trying to get it to work as well.
This should go here, and that should go there..
Plenty of debate.
It was good to see our parade coverage featured on YouTube Ireland. In a week it has become our most watched show ever with almost 50'000 views. The power of YouTube is still unparrelled.
We made some pretty ambitious calls to get guest commentators. But in the end faith left it in the hands of me and Tom. I think it worked out well though. Certainly for those out there with a sense of irony and humour. There are clearly some very angry hate filled YouTubers out there. Who are these loons?
The BalconyTV Hamburg crew also had a video featured on YouTube Germany. JAN BARUSCHKE & MARKUS ROLLWAGE have had over 30'000 since featuring.
So its all good.
On Sunday night myself and Tom went to the funeral of Mongrel Magazine in the Sugar Club. It was a great night, full of rambling chat. Sorry to see the magazine wrap though.
So thats it in a nutshell.
Here is a website well worth checking out. Thanks to Andrew on Canada for this link.

ANTHONY MINGHELLA

Sorry to hear about the death of the film maker Anthony Minghella. I saw him speak in the IFI during the 100 Years of Beckett festival a year or so again in Dublin. He directed a short film of Becketts Play. Here is Part one and two of the film.

NAM THE MAN WINS

We just learned that Nam The Man who performed some mind boggling dangerous football freestyle tricks on BalconyTV a while back, and won Best Non Music Award at the BalconyTV Music Video Awards last year, has won first place at the European Freestyle Competition in France representing Ireland!
Nam was up against the toughest of opposition. Here is his winning Final Battle performance...

BIRTHDAYS

It appears our MySpace is claiming that it is our birthday -BalconyTVs birthday. Alas its not. It is actually my birthday (well it will be soon). I entered the birth date for myself accidently when setting up the BalconyTV MySpace. The BalconyTV birthday is more along the lines of June 7th. At that time BalconyTV will be 2 years old.

And while it is my birthday in the coming days, last week it was Pauline of BalconyTVs birthday. What age she is, I dare not say. I got her the movie soundtracks to The Darjeeling Limited and Broken Flowers as she is about to go on a spiritual journey through India!. Its true.

Speaking of spiritual journeys, this man is worth the watch. Surprisingly witty.

EMAIL HELL

Its been a while. Sorry.

I'm in email/ myspacing hell. People ask, why don't we have a Bebo, why don't we have a Facebook? (We actually do, we just don't advertise the fact;-)

The reason is, that on any given day I have five pages of MySpace emails to get through. Requests to play are at an all time high at the moment. I like to listen to every applicant before deciding whether to allow them on. Alot of acts are turned down now. This is hugely time consuming activity. Music begins to sound more and more similar. It can get head wrecking.

Then we have friend requests. We get about 20 of them a day. I like to go through them individually and say hello, thus eliminating spammers. Alot of them are bands who are interested in performing too.

After that the actual BalconyTV email account needs to be taken care of. More requests to play, press requests, BalconyTV expansion and acres of spam. I'm worth about 10 gazillion now due to all my relatives in Zimbabwe who have died in plane crashes.

After that, I need to monitor all the comments on the YouTube video pages. With almost 800 videos archived there are alot there.

So it aint all fun.

THE BALCONYTV POETRY SEASON

For the next few days we'll have some small pieces of poetry from some Dublin based poets in what we have unimaginatively called The BalconyTV Poetry Season. We have had poetry on BalconyTV before. The problem is with inviting poets up, is that they can create a stir and controversy much more aggressively than the usual rock star brigade. You don't know what they are likely to say. We hope you enjoy.
