new captions and stuff

so i've put aside my fears of all the other jargon that goes on in final cut pro (our editing software), and i've figured out how to put captions and a logo in the corner of the screen.
going for the cool mtv look. back in the early nineties when mtv actually was cool...
remember wacky presenters...of crazy european varieties...
and when they used to play music. remember that?
anyway...
what do you reckon?
maybe we need a new logo for this purpose?
do you think it looks too commercial? pauline does...maybe...
i think it looks kinda pro...even though we are not going for pro...
so?

All about today...

So today is a very special BalconyTV.
To explain.
I used to be an usher in Vicar Street.
In 2000/2001 Paul Brady did a 21 night sold out stint at the venue.
I was completly unfamiliar with Bradys work, and for some reason, I had bad preconcieved notions about what to expect...
I was an usher on the top floor of the venue, so when the gig began I was alloud to watch.
Suffice to say the gigs were amazing, great atmosphere throughout...The crowd was really energised for the shows...
It was also interesting to sit some notable celebs during the gigs...Elvis Costello, Sinead O' Connor etc...
Anyway, I remember I was particularly impressed with Bradys folk Irish sound.
I purchased the album The LIberty Tapes soon later...which is apparently a lost recording of a gig from 1978...
Its one of my favourite albums.
Anyway, after bombarding Pauls people with emails, I has delighted to get the call from Paul, saying he was interested in performing.
Pauline has never been so professional (shes also a big fan, as is her family)...
And I was more than a tad nervous...
Paul was the complete pro...a one take wonder too, which dosn't happen on BalconyTV that often.
Not sure how to end this particular blog...
So I'll just say tune in tomorrow folks...

Points of Business and a Very Special Announcement

Ok, a few things folks...

The balconytv bash which we have been harping on about a bit is called off for the moment, as some of the key acts we wanted to perform are away at the time. It was going to be a blast...it still will be, just not sure when it will be...

Next, yesterday BalconyTV was a Notable Addition in the Itunes Podcast Arts Section of the Music Store...(thats not so easy to say)...

We really want to get into the Itunes charts...so subscribe folks...its free after all...just click the link on the main page...

Watch Moesleys performance today on BalconyTV. They brought up 2 keyboards, amps, the works. Its the first moving camera on BalconyTV.

And finally, tomorrow we have a very special guest on BalconyTV. We shall say no more, but he is someone who is definitly a legend, and BalconyTV is truelly honored to have him.

But who is it???

Tune in tomorrow!!!

Watching Rushmore

And trying to write a blog...
Which is showing a huge disrespect to Rushmore which is a fantabulous film...
And showing a huge direspect to this blog, which is a fantabulous blog...
Ive seen Rushmore before, so its excuseable...
Although I've never wrote this blog entry before so it shows a huge lack of respect to your the 'trying to be entertained reader'...
Myself and Pauline went to see 'The Break Up' last night...
We managed to get two front row seats...in the largest screen in UGC.
Not as bad as you may have heard...very entertaining infact, until about half way through, when th e film goes through a massive personality change...and gets quite serious and wishy washy in tone...
Vince Vaughn is great throughout.
Its a 3- starer.
We bumped in REV. JM BURR in the cinema, who has performed on BalconyTV recently.
Look up the archives and check him out.
Tomorrow ye all...

PAULINE SPEAKS

Once again, I relinquish control...today...Pauline speaks...

"My flip flop i flip, my elbow the door" - a blog inspired by alcohol

This was the answer I gave in the early hours of this morning to my 2
gentlemen friends who escourted me home when asked what had just happened ! ( I
have been informed by text) I sorta fell in the door and it hurt !
So Stephen has finally let me give the balcony blog a bit of a female
touch (and make it a bit interesting as he has no life and i do)

Last night I agreed to meet 2 friends Dilly and Stevo for a game of
pool which soon turned in to why not go do Karaoke and get smashed.... We went
to Yukio on Geroges st, booked a booth and 3 stars were born ! The guy
setting up our booth was kinda scared when we put an Elaine Paige song
on and us all being straight. We sweated and sang our hearts out,
Stevo was LL Cool J, I was Jlo and Dilly was Billy (Joel) , how poetic of
me !
The bar guy was seriously cute but could have been gay due to a flowery
shirt he was sporting ( not in the hot surfer way) , more in the grannies old curtains
way - Who knows ? Can a guy wear a shirt with flowers and be straight
? - Ok I feel like Carrie Bradshaw writing this now and believe me ,
Im not typing this in a beautiful New york apt, I'm in Stephens room
sitting on his brown bed with an egg mug on the ground and he would be
mad that im in there ....

So anyway to wrap up, I can spell, I can even rhyme and I have a life,
I put this question to you... whos blog would you prefer to read ??!!

Over and out,Your favourite presenter,
Pauline xxx

Success for Starturtle!!!

I just noticed...looking at the individual video ratings, that Starturtle have had over 1'000 individual video views on BalconyTV. Which is really remarkable. They have managed to do that in quite a short period of time. They have eclipsed both Black Orchid (BellyDancers) and BalconyTVs coverage of Gay Pride.
Here it is again for those who havn't seen Starturtles performance.

Incredible...no?

yesterday youtube, today myspace

so yesterday evening when checking the balconytv myspace, i discovered that the page had been deleted!!! do you have any concept of how fustrating that is!!! i have no idea why it would have happened, but lo and beholst it leaves me with only one solution, and thats basically to set it up all over again.
a pain in the neck i say...
sometimes things just dont work. for instance, i usually upload a very large high quality file onto youtube...but sometimes, for whatever reason youtube dosnt accept it, and i have to upload a smaller lower quality file...
that explains why sometimes the videos look better that other times...
so that explains why lauren guillery dosnt look quite so beautiful today...i mean, she does look beautiful, but it explains why the picture quality is a tad poor.
i recommend you download the performance to your ipod!!!
the balcony crew have already agreed that it is one our favourite performances...
yeah...so its not all wine and roses basically...
ahhhh
tgi friday!!!

YOUTUBE finally collapses!!!!

So, YOUTUBE, the website BalconyTV, uses to host all the videos seems to not be working now! Which makes uploading todays show impossible. Could this be the end for BalconyTV?
Im surprised YOUTUBE has survived this long. Apparently the site gets 100 million views a day now, more than MTV!!!
As you may notice there is apparent copy right theft all over the site...how the powers that be havn't crushed it by now is incredible.
Unless they are crushing it now as we speak. Please god no. Personally I think YOUTUBE is the best thing since sliced bread.
Anyway, while its down, it allows me to write a better blog entry than I have been doing lately.
More focused, taught out...eccetera eccetera...
Thats the first time in my life I have tryed to spell etc. Think I may have got it wrong.
Ok, heres the snoop. The lowdown. The scoop.
BalconyTV is planning a party. A party to rival all parties. You've heard it hear first. Details to be announced in the days to come.
See I'm thinking that because YOUTUBE is based in San Fran (I think), they are about ten hours back. So its 12.51 amish there now...
So lets say they have left the offices...are all fast asleep. That means it wont be fixed till about 7 tonight Irish time.
But you'd say they have people who work on it over night, wouldn't you?
You'd say....
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

So Pauline Sat Me Down Last Night...

And told it to me straight.

Pauline - 'Stephen, I have to be honest with you, straight if you will'

Stephen - Sure, Pauline, anything, lay it to me'

Pauline - 'Stephen, don't take offense'

Stephen - 'Me, offense, don't be ridiculous'

Pauline - 'Well, I have been reading your blog lately, and I think you have to pick it up a bit'

Stephen - 'Excuse me'

Pauline - 'It seems like your just not bothered anymore. People can see you've lost interest'

Stephen - 'What?'

Pauline - 'I think I should do it. Let me do tomorrows'

Stephen - 'Are you joking with me?'

Pauline - 'Stephen, what are you doing with that knife'

Stephen - 'I'm sharpening it'

Pauline - 'Why would you do that, Stephen, Ste, Stephano...wait a minute...get back, no...stop...

Stephen - 'Whats your problem'

Pauline - 'How do you expect me to butter my bread with that, Just clean the other cutlery.'

Stephen - 'OK'

this heat is intolerable

is this for real. im not sure we should be getting heat like this.
roswell!!! roswell!!!
tom was walking down the street yesterday, and walked by two beautiful stunning blonds.
he overheard them say...'thats that guy from balconytv'
he got a kick out of that.
im not getting a kick out of this heat.
i likes the rain myself...
it also makes the balcony difficult to light when its this sunny.
dont ask me the science of it.
but that explains the darkness in recent vids.
forgive me please...
for the lighting will be better from now on...
hows that for bad punctuation, grammer and speling pauline!!!!

melting broadband

So back in Dublin.
In my apartment I have broadband (kinda), via one of those instant plug in boxes. The problem is they say you have to put it by the window in order to get the best from it.
Thats an understatement. You have to walk from room to room searching for a signal. Holding it like an old TV antena.
Anyways, I usually leave it by a certain window, but with the heat as it is...IT MELTS!!!
Ireland needs better broadband!!!
Welcome to the week!!!

Pauline likes good spelling.

Pauline has been telling me that my blog spelling is atrocious. It really hurt me when she said that. She said it is such a sardonic way, it left me feeling moribund. I can spell very well. Watch...

excellent
amazing
splendid
incredible
shocking
unbelievable
stupendous

and so on and so forth.

I think you'll find Pauline, that I have spelt almost all those words correctly.

So Pauline, I want you to get your words, put them on a plate, add some salt and pepper, and eat them. What I'm trying to say Pauline, is eat your words!!!

Secret to a successful blog

Read yesterday in one of dublins trendite mags, that ireland dosnt have one noteable blogger, like pretty much everwhere else in the world.

HELLO!!!! YOU THINK IM DOIN THIS FOR FUN?

Dave Fanning and Co. please dont sue us for todays vid, remember ITS JUST FOR FUN!!! Anybody remember that from The Big Breakfast?

Presenter Tom Millett was spotted in UKIYO last night with two other men singing Kareoke. Ahem. He was cranking out the U2 tunes amoungst others. Which gives me the idea of Balcony Kareoke. Not sure how it would work. Maybe once a week, Tom sings something famous. No, can't do that actually.

Worst idea ever!!!

So general question who thinks the building opposite the BalconyTV is pretty ugly? Will you raise yourr hands please.

Congrats to Terry Christian for awnering yesterdays question.

DAVE FANNING ON THE RADIO with ME!!! (or the other way around!!)

So I got a call from Dave Fanning last night.

PRODUCER: Can you be on air in 1 minute?

STE: Eh, em, eh, sure...

Lo and beholdst one minute later I am talking to the speed talking dj king Dave Fanning.

Was quite a good chat, apart from the odd waffles which I just couldn't help splurting from my mouth.

I remember saying to him that we wanted to create a new scene in ilk to 2TV. That music programme that used to be on a Sunday morning on NetWork 2 and 2FM similtaneously.

You know that show was really quite good. We take things for granted when they are around.

That show you could leave on in the background while the Sunday morning fry was being made. It was one of the last cheerful pieces of telly on a Sunday before the likes of Little House on a Prarie, LoveJoy, Where in the World, School Around the Corner and gulp Glenroe. How depressing a line up was that, and then there was always school the next day.

Congrats to Rachel Brady (BIG SHOUT OUT) for the correst anwser to yesterdays question. Today...hmmm.
What type of guitar is Crayonsmith playing? Email in stephen@balconytv.com
And you will win a big shout out.

trying to create the dublin scene here, and no inspiration. none.
is it hard to get inspiration in dublin.
have no idea what to write about again.
sure there were days when it was funny, ironic, even sardonic...

but now its akin to drunken ramblings.

congrats to melissa george for awnsering yesterdays film related question right.
todays question...how many people does aiden have with him on the balcony?
easy. winner gets a big shout out tomorrow.
email stephen@balconytv.com

TOM HEADBUTTED STE

So the balcony crew got into an uprecidented argy bargy yesterday.
It was a battle over egos. Suffice to say I was fairly trampled on by the megolamaniacs that are Tom and Pauline. Their powers combined make them a duo to be reckoned with.
Demands were flying left and right. They want more camera time, they want blog input, they way pay increases, better working conditions etc.
Well you know what I say to them?
@£$%*& *&£@ $%@&!*&@
Damn straight.
If you think for one moment Tom and Pauline that you are moving in on my blog space, you have another thing coming.
Its mines and Im staying. BalconyTV or no BalconyTV.

Zidane, why of why? Most depressing World Cup finale ever.

Ok in a novel feature to the daily blog, I'm going to ask a question relating to the daily video. Number five email, will receive a shout out in tomorrows blog.

Question: What sticker does James Guilmartin have on his guitar?

This is to see your all paying attention. Fun fun fun.

Emails to stephen@balconytv.com

world cup final day

:-(
can't believe its over. its hasn't been vintage, but it has been the world cup...
what has this got to do with balconytv?
absolutely nothing. but i feel the need to express my sadness.
ofcoarse we must remember at times like this that there are many more important things,
many more important things,
although I cant think what they are,
im sure there must be something.

the advantage of there being no world cup is that I can now focus or programming duties, for balcony tv.

hello to all oxygen folk by the way. rain...hah!!!

im going to read the sunday papers.

saturday morning waffles

Saturdays blurb. I don't know where the word blurb came from but this is a blurb. Is it not?
Nice piece in The Times today. Short as it is, it says...

'It's only a few weeks old, but Balcony TV is becoming a cult. Every day, Pauline Freeman, Tom Millett and Stephen O' Regan webcast a magazine programme featuring anything from singers to belly dancers, transmitting to the world from their balcony on Dame Street in Dublin. www.balconytv.com. NG'

Short and sweet and in big letters:-) But its funny how BalconyTV has been described as a magazine programme again. The digital podcast programme thingy with Dusty Rhodes called it the same thing, saying we were one hour long.

How do you define a magazine programme? I always reckoned it was a show that had lots of little things in it. Our shows have just one thing in it. You can't flick through it. (Unless you go the archives ofcoarse) You can't leave it on the floor of the bathroom. You can't read about Jordan on it. (Yet). You get the idea.

In my secret location in the city now, where they have super strong airlink, which makes upload easier, I keep seeing this guy walk around who I swear I a legendary Hollywood movie director. Being a film maker myself (wannabe/ tryabe), I really recognize him...but just can't place him. He has that classic Mel Brooksy look.

Who likes todays paragraphs?

TIME to welcome our anna livia viewers/listeners

last night i was hanging with the posh crowd in cafe en senners (just lost half our audience I know)...
it was a promotional night for the balcony you understand.
anywho, got chatting to beautiful reporter from TIME magazine!!! see, hanging out in cafe en senners presents opportoonities....
i asked her was she getting an expose on dublin latest 'happening' (balconytv..duh)
and she said no...
but never fear, the drinks started flowing...
and as things got dizzier and dizzier, i could see it...the red banner, those big letters of time...and just a photo of the balcony...
they'd say it was the first balcony on the cover of TIME since the days of Mussolini...
we drank and drank...
rolled on to sin...or spi...or whatever...
was in show off mood...desperate for that TIME editorial...
the drinks flowed...
the chat blowed...
i had a sense the success was in the offering...
dramatic classical music swelled like that to the opening of a champions league match...
i stepped out side with a couple of friends...
decided to do the cool approach...
we act like we dont need this shit, then they give us this shit for free routine
suddenly out walks TIME reporter...and beelines into a taxi...
not even a goodbye...

may I welcome all our viewers from Anna Livia...
you have entered the twilight zone...

my head hurts

the sun is melting the balconytv sign

so we have the sign that nobody can see (look up people!!!) plasted on with 'heavy duty black godzilla stickiest thing ever tape'
but because of the freakish - 'oh the weather is so great, we are all going to ignore the fact that is the claws of global warming taking hold' weather (got this?)
that the tape is melting, leading to sign fallage downage.
so the only sollution is to stick more 'heavy duty black godzilla stickiest thing ever tape' on.
lets hope the 'oh the weather is so great, we are all going to ignore the fact that is the claws of global warming taking hold' weather dosnt hit again.
give it up for robotnik by the way...

Some people are on the internet, they think its not a podcast...Its is now!!!
Ahhhh, technology eh...where would we be without it.
Yes yall, now it is possible, to download performances onto your shiny Ipod. How awsome is that. You can even subscribe for free (and we all like free stuff) and find balconytv on your itunes everyday.

I have to buy an Ipod now!!!
And in sunny days like this, you no longer have to watch balcony tv n your office, but instead you can watch it on the beach. Woweeeeee!!!

pimp my balcony

went into habitat yesterday with some vouchers i got as a christmas present. things are so pricey in habitat that i couldnt get anything with them. until now.
i purchased two boxes of strip dancing lights. my mission being to pimp the balcony.
must give a thank you to my friend magnus who never tired of tearing more and more bits of masking tape for me.
the effect now i think is quite impressive. look up at the balcony tonight after nine...or whenever we are bothered turning them on...and prepare to be dazzled...blown away...awe struck...amazed...and so on
the evolution of the balcony continues...
and the electricity bills go up...and up...and up...

Give me a break already

So, yesterday, Saturday was my first day where I didn't post. And this is an unorthodox time for me to post.
Why, oh why you ask? Simple impulse. Just wasnt bothered yesterday.
Thats not good I know.
A more professional attitude from now on.
Spent the day watching the football yesterday like the rest of the world.
Thinking about have a World Cup Final party on the balcony.
Thinking about it.
